Apply a visual design to multiple surfaces
Demonstrate how you can apply a common visual language for a NASA time travel app, which consists of a UI that identifies where in time you are, where in time you want to go, and an actionable affordance to initiate time travel (don’t worry about flows). Provide a screen for both an iOS phone and an Android tablet that are on brand, while also being considerate of native platform design guidelines.
Concept, Design, UX
iOS and Android Tablet App
TIME CAPTURE APP
There are many moments in life where you would want to capture and store it to reminiscence and treasure the memory. With this app, you can easily type in the year or date you want to travel to, find videos and pictures from that event and capture it. The circle with the "+" sign is the icon where you can easily click and store away.
The keywords for this app is: Sentimental, Whimsical, and Secure.
The first screen is the sign-in page for the first time or returning user.
TIME TRAVEL DESTINATION SCREEN
After you sign-in, the first thing they inform you is today's date, the destination of the date or year you want to go. Notice that the hamburger is vertical, it animates back horizontally when you are out of this screen. The call to action is right below, "Press to Travel".
DATE OR YEAR REQUESTED SCREEN
You are in the date you requested to travel to. That is indicated on the top of the screen right below the navigation. You may press that to change the destination any time. The video is playing and it shows right below the video that there are 2 more clips. You can rewind and fast-forward by pressing and moving around the circle . You can "capture" this event and share the moment with your friends. The keywords can also be a fun way to link other events that are similar.
TIME TRAVEL TO 1920
If you are interested to explore the 1920's, you can also type that in without filling the month and date. The middle screen shows a video of women from the 1920's in their flapper attire.
TIME CAPTURES SCREEN
When you click on the capture icon on the right of navigation, it displays your profile picture and that you captured 54 events so far. The different sizes of the circles are by popularity. You can also toggle between circle or list layout.
ANDROID TABLET SCREEN
This is showing the event/date you requested in Android Tablet Screen. The clips and description is moved to the right while you can easily swipe through the pictures and other moments of that day. The picture with "9:15am" can show times of that event as well.
SKETCHES & BRAINSTORMING
Process is an important part of being creative and coming up with ideas. Some ways to get your mind to thinking is research, educating yourself on the topic with books or other media. It's also crucial to see from the user's perspective, and list some of user's pain points and reasons why they would use this app, Sketching out ideas and loose wireframes is another great way to get your creative fuel going. I put a big brown paper on the wall and sketched away some thoughts.
Here are some that I wrote down:
GOAL OF THE USER
-Easily and conveniently travel form current time to past/future and back
-Experience the travel: enjoyment, safe, escape, getaway, vacation
-Specific travel to personal moments or discovering each time you use the app
-Know where you are and which time you are
-Ability to share that moment - secure share through airdrop or wifi only or more public social sharing
-Personal travel or world's history/future travel
-To be entertained
-To hold and remember personal memories
-To learn facts, to be educated, to grow knowledge
-To relate with someone because of the event, sharing the moment
-To find out hidden mysteries and secrets, curiosity, wonder
-Safety, security over your own time travels. -> Perhaps thumbprint sign-in like credit cards
-If you can't remember the specific date -> smart search could be a possibility
"...Each observer would have his own measure of time as recorded by a clock that he carried, and clocks carried by different observers would not necessarily agree. Thus time became a more personal concept, relative to the observer who measured it...But what if the railway line come back to a station it had already passed? In other words, might it be possible for someone to travel into the future or the past?"
- STEPHEN HAWKING, A BRIEFER HISTORY OF TIME
Stephen Hawking writes that time-traveling is personal and subjective, even time itself being entirely different to each person. The TIME CAPTURE is an app that provides a personal connection for users to store memories of the past and future.
